What the Moderate Republican Stands For

Republicans came to power as the party of big ideas, and without returning to that model they could be looking at a long winter. Additionally, those big ideas need to focus on Middle America. Three issues that could work are conservation, reform and localism.

Conservation- a return to the Teddy Roosevelt model of conservation. One doesn’t necessarily have to buy into global warming to appreciate the need to protect the natural resources we have.

Reform- the federal government is bigger than ever, and won’t be getting any smaller over the next four years. Republicans need to fashion themselves as national reformers. Much of Middle America wants the government as safety net, but bloated bureaucracies breed corruption that needs to be dealt with.

Localism- this is the lynchpin that brings it all together. If we bought our food locally, shopped locally, governed locally, many of the issue we now have to deal with would go away, or at the least become manageable.

Below is a collection of writers who speak about the things that matter. Some are Right, some Left and some Center, but all intelligent and rational voices.

Climate Change a Fraud?

From The Wall Street Journal:
The picture that emerges of prominent climate-change scientists from the more than 3,000 documents and emails accessed by hackers and put on the Internet this week is one of professional backbiting and questionable scientific practices. It could undermine the idea that the science of man-made global warming is entirely settled just weeks before a crucial climate-change summit.
That this is not front page news is telling isn't it? This could be one of the major scandals of the 21st century, yet I saw nothing about it on TV yesterday. I have always been in the middle on the climate change discussion. While it could be a bad thing for humans I do not necessarily think we are completely to blame- nor do I think there is much we can do. Trying to control nature on such a macro scale seems folly to me. However, the complete and outright dishonesty of these scientists is a bit overwhelming.

Some more interesting facts from the hacked emails. One of the emails says [emphasis mine]:

"I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline."

The finally some damning meta-statistics from Karl Denninger.
The number of times the following words appear:
  • Fraud: 79
  • Falsify: 6
  • Inflate: 14
  • Conceal: 5
  • Hide: 19

Since when do actual facts matter? One only needs to look at the hypocrisy of Al Gore to know that he is a liar and his agenda is a fake. But libs know how to push the emotional buttons on other libs so that their brain function shuts down.
