What the Moderate Republican Stands For

Republicans came to power as the party of big ideas, and without returning to that model they could be looking at a long winter. Additionally, those big ideas need to focus on Middle America. Three issues that could work are conservation, reform and localism.

Conservation- a return to the Teddy Roosevelt model of conservation. One doesn’t necessarily have to buy into global warming to appreciate the need to protect the natural resources we have.

Reform- the federal government is bigger than ever, and won’t be getting any smaller over the next four years. Republicans need to fashion themselves as national reformers. Much of Middle America wants the government as safety net, but bloated bureaucracies breed corruption that needs to be dealt with.

Localism- this is the lynchpin that brings it all together. If we bought our food locally, shopped locally, governed locally, many of the issue we now have to deal with would go away, or at the least become manageable.

Below is a collection of writers who speak about the things that matter. Some are Right, some Left and some Center, but all intelligent and rational voices.

2010 a GOP Year?

A new Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll shows President Obama's approval rating sinking to a new low of 46% with an equal number now disapproving of the job Obama is doing as President.

In the generic congressional ballot, Republicans lead Democrats, 42% to 39% with 15% undecided.

2010 may well be a GOP year. The electorate is like modern technology: no patience. If things are still an economic mess in 2012, it will likely be a Dem year. Our economic problems are far deeper than mere politics....

Actually, our economic problems are no deeper than politics. Whereas religion ought not have a part in the political domain, so too should politics cease to have any influence in the economic domain.

As for a GOP resurgence in 2010, a win by mere default is hardly a win.

Actually, BB-Idaho, if the economy is still a mess in 2012, then i think it's fair to say that Democrats, and Obama in particular, will be blamed thus making an opening for a possible Republican come-back. However, if the economy has improved, especially with regard to jobs, then I think Dems can expect to reap the reward for it.
