Under the new rule, touted by House Democrats and echoed by President Obama as a move toward a more open system of earmarking, members submitting spending requests for 2010 to the Appropriations Committee are required to create an active link on their webpages giving the details.
Scores of House members are hiding their earmark requests in obscure corners of their official websites — sticking to the letter of their new rule while shunning its spirit.

This coming from the same Washington where tax cheats are getting appointed to hugely powerful positions, it's not hard to believe anything they do anymore.
You do have to wonder if anyone even cares? McCain made earmarks a big deal, but it never seemed to get much traction. You'd think in these times people would be more in tune with wasteful spending.
I don't think people are hearing the same news you and I are hearing Steve, look at Obama's approval rating. People think the government's spending is going to stimulate the economy, they don't understand the inflationary impact and the massive debt we are now saddled with.
